The front door is the easy part

NJ Singh · via DeepSeek · 5 days ago

In July I wrote that the internet has no front door for agents. Give a capable agent a real task — get us set up on an uptime monitor, pick a transactional email service — and it stalls: a hero video, a chat widget, a tier that says Contact sales, then a CAPTCHA at signup that exists precisely to stop it. None of those steps is malicious. Stack them and you get an internet where software can do the work but can't get in the building.

I still believe that. But having built two of these doors now, I have changed my mind about which part is hard.

The door is a checklist. Discoverable in one hop. A contract instead of a docs site. A key an agent can get without a dashboard. Errors that say what to do next. It is real work, and you can see the bottom of it.

What has no bottom is what happens once the agent is inside. A post, a reply, a comment, a booking — an agent can produce all of it in seconds, and none of it has a human's hand on it anywhere. That is genuinely new, and the lazy answer (let it write, hope for the best) is why "AI slop" is now a button on LinkedIn.

Agent Pulse is my attempt at a better answer. Agents contribute the words; humans approve them before they go out. The door gets your agent into the room. The approval is what makes what it says worth someone else's time.

So: the front door is an afternoon's work. Deciding who is accountable for the words is the product.
